HISTORY

In 1998, the wife of a Missoula physician, recognized that though Missoula offered exceptional medical treatment for a wide variety of ailments, many low and moderate income medical travelers couldn’t afford shelter and food staples while in town, or needed a place to stay for extended periods of time while undergoing treatment.  Her vision quickly spread as others grasped the obvious need, and the Foundation raised enough money to purchase the historical Victorian house and land to create this “place like home” for those patients and families in need.

MISSION

For almost 20 years, the St. Patrick House has served over 30,000 men, women and children with affordable lodging and meals ($35/night). For those who cannot afford this modest amount, there is no charge. The Saint Patrick House has 14 private rooms that provide safe respite for guests from out of town who are connected to the medical care systems in Missoula. We serve over 2,000 individuals each year and are open 365 days a year/24 hours a day. Families come from every county in Montana and all over the United States and even from other countries. Many guests seek medical care in Missoula and cannot afford lodging and some patients stay as long as eight weeks in order to undergo cancer treatments or other long-term care.

THE NEED

We estimate 25% of the 2,000 friends and families could not afford to pay even the nominal $35 nightly rate to stay at the house. The funds raised will support the cost for individuals who find the $35 a night a hardship. Our goal is to operate at max occupancy at the St. Patrick House without turning a single family away. Our weekday occupancy has regularly approached 100%, validating the need for our services. The St. Patrick House brings relief to those in unforeseen and unavoidable stressful circumstances, and with your help, we can welcome them home.

We ask you to consider a gift to our Welcome Home Fund to support those in need.
